Walking
There is no better way of getting to know an area than through the soles
of your feet, whether a short stroll or something a little bit more
energetic. This approach is certainly true with regard to getting to
know the English Riviera and its surrounding area.
There is a walk for everyone to experience and enjoy, from the energetic
young family to perhaps someone who is physically impaired and requires
wheelchair-friendly access. The English Riviera Tourist Board has put
together a series of 16 beautiful walks in Torbay and the surrounding
area, which take in some of the finest viewpoints in the country.
The English Riviera is encompassed by beautiful countryside, mysterious
estuaries, tranquil villages and romantic moorland, all offering a great
variety of walking experiences.
Details of nine popular walks around Torbay, produced by the English
Riviera Tourist Board, can be downloaded from
here.
The Torbay Coral Coast walk can also be found on the
BBC website. Details of the John Musgrave
Heritage Trail, a 35 mile trail which takes in a large section of the
South Devon landscape can be obtained from tourist information centres
in the area or from the
South Devon Ramblers
Association.
Cycling
Cycling is a sustainable and healthy activity for all the family and a
great way of getting some fresh air and exercise whilst also doing a
spot of sightseeing. With more and more people taking to two wheels, now
is the perfect time to explore the beautiful surroundings of the English
Riviera and let a bike take you to places off the beaten track.
While Torquay may be built on seven hills, the road following the
natural curve of the Bay are generally very flat and boast some stunning
views offering a range of cycling routes to suit all ages, abilities and
experience.
